I designed a solution that enables real estate agents to seamlessly grant access to their lockboxes, empowering their business partners to complete tasks without delays or coordination hassles.

Background

Agents are always on the go and never a one man show

Agents are always on the go and never a one man show

Agents may co-list a property, appraisers come to assess the value of the property, inspectors are assessing the house conditions, and stagers are preparing the house for potential buyers. They all need to access the property but with a busy schedule and many clients, the agent can't always show up to open the door. We're creating a way for agents to conveniently give access to these personnel - that way they can open the lockbox and access the property all on their own.

Problem

Agents are having a hard time finding the available time slots

A listing's availability can be complicated and limited as it depends on existing showings, the seller's restrictions, and open houses. Initially, we had these restrictions displayed on the calendar selector - a component we reused from a different part of the app. After user research, we found that agents are trying to find what time slots are available instead of looking at what restrictions there are each day.

Solution

Displaying suggested times to make it quicker to grant access

Through multiple rounds of iterations and critiques alongside my PM and dev lead, we explored different ways to show what times are available. But with time constraints and getting engineering input late, our hands were tied in terms of what solution we could do for phase 1.

Suggested timeslots based on selected date and time

We decided to put an informative timeslot suggestion based on the date and time selected by the agent. We expect that this will help the agent decide what timeslot to choose because they don't need to check the availability each day and figure it out themselves.

Show restrictions in a drawer

After speaking with our users, knowing why a certain timeslot isn't available is still important, but this information doesn't need to be front and center. To help agents know why it's not available, we decided to put these restrictions in a drawer so that the agents can still see what's going on if they choose to.
